Asri Ludin Tambunan to Percut Sei Tuan District on Sunday, August 23, 2026, was more than just an administrative engagement. The visit became an important moment to strengthen the community's collective commitment to education, environmental protection, and character building among the younger generation.

Asri Ludin Tambunan, the Regent took part in several community-based activities. The series of events began with a community walk and exercise session as part of the Gerakan Masyarakat Peduli Pendidikan (GMPP), or Community Movement for Education Awareness, organized by the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) in
Percut Sei Tuan District.
The visit continued with the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of four new classrooms at SD Negeri 106810 Sampali. The construction project is being supported through Citraland's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. The working visit concluded with the Gerakan Deli Serdang Mengaji (GDSM) at Al-Huda Mosque in Sampali Village.
GMPP Envisioned as a Collective Movement
Asri Ludin Tambunan commended the community, PGRI, business sector, and all other parties involved in efforts to improve education in Percut Sei Tuan District. At the same time, he called for GMPP to become more than a district-level initiative and to be expanded to all districts across Deli Serdang Regency.
The Regent urged district heads to serve as catalysts by encouraging communities, businesses, parents, and other social groups to raise awareness of the importance of education.
"Education cannot be the sole responsibility of the government and schools. It requires the active participation of parents, the community, businesses, and all stakeholders. Through GMPP, we want to build a shared awareness that education is an investment in the future of our children," he said.
According to Asri, the construction of four new classrooms at SD Negeri 106810 Sampali, supported by Citraland's CSR program, demonstrates how collaboration among different stakeholders can directly benefit students. The new classrooms are expected to support the learning process while providing a more appropriate educational environment.
He also called on the community to develop a stronger sense of responsibility toward schools in their respective areas. In his view, community involvement does not necessarily have to come in the form of major contributions.
"The main responsibility lies with the government, but the community also has a role to play. That role does not have to be large. Even the smallest contribution, when made collectively, can become an extraordinary force," he said.
The commitment to education also includes developing environmentally conscious schools through the Adiwiyata Program in Deli Serdang Regency. Of the 155 schools targeted for the Adiwiyata Program, only six have so far participated.
Asri has set a target for the remaining 149 schools to join the Adiwiyata Program in 2027. He also reiterated his aspiration for all schools in
Deli Serdang to develop stronger environmental awareness.
"We have more than 600 schools across Deli Serdang Regency. In the future, I want all of these schools to become environmentally conscious schools," he stressed.

One Thousand Tree Seedlings for Deli Serdang
In addition to education, the working visit also conveyed a message about the importance of environmental protection. Citraland and Ciputra handed over approximately 1,000 tree seedlings to the
Deli Serdang Regency Government.
The Deli Serdang Government, through its Environmental Agency, will distribute the seedlings for planting across several areas. The initiative is intended to strengthen greening efforts while encouraging greater environmental awareness among the community.
The handover of the tree seedlings also demonstrates that cooperation between the government and business sector can cover a range of areas and is not limited to the construction of educational facilities. The regional government is seeking to involve companies more actively in programs that provide direct benefits to the community.
Through this support, the government hopes that more stakeholders will become involved in maintaining and protecting the environment, particularly in residential areas and public facilities, including schools.

GDSM Strengthens the Character of the Younger Generation
The working visit continued at Al-Huda Mosque in Sampali Village with the Gerakan
Deli Serdang Mengaji. The Regent views the initiative as part of efforts to nurture a young generation equipped not only with intellectual abilities but also with good morals and strong character.
"The Gerakan Deli Serdang Mengaji is not merely about reading the Quran, but about putting its values into practice in daily life. We want the younger generation of Deli Serdang to have knowledge, good morals, and strong character," he explained.
Asri hopes that the spirit of togetherness that has emerged in
Percut Sei Tuan District will spread to other areas. In his view, efforts to advance education, protect the environment, and build the character of the younger generation require the involvement of all segments of society.
He wants the various programs to develop into a collective movement involving the government, schools, families, communities, businesses, professional organizations, and community leaders. Through this collaboration, human resource development in Deli Serdang should not rely solely on government policies, but also be supported by concrete contributions from the community.
