SPECIAL PLENARY SESSION: Labuhanbatu Selatan Regent Fery Sahputra Simatupang, accompanied by Deputy Regent Syahdian Purba Siboro and other officials, attends the special plenary session of the Labusel DPRD in conjunction with the 2026 Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI on Friday, August 14, 2026.

LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency Government has reaffirmed its commitment to aligning regional development with national policy directions. This was demonstrated when Regent of Labuhanbatu Selatan Fery Sahputra Simatupang, accompanied by Deputy Regent Syahdian Purba Siboro, attended the special plenary session of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) on Friday, August 14, 2026. The session was held in conjunction with the 2026 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI).

The event, held in the Labuhanbatu Selatan DPRD plenary hall, provided the regional government and DPRD with an opportunity to listen to the state address delivered by President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, while also taking note of the direction of national development policy.

During the 2026 Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI, President Prabowo presented an accountability report on the performance of state institutions. In his address, the President emphasized that development success should not be measured solely by economic growth or the level of investment.

According to the President, development must ultimately have a tangible impact on improving public welfare in a fair and equitable manner.

"Our sole ultimate goal is to realize the welfare of the entire Indonesian people," was one of the key messages delivered by the President in his address.

Public Welfare as the Foundation of Development

The President also explained that the government had launched 121 transformative measures to gradually and comprehensively address the country's various challenges.

In his address, Prabowo also outlined a number of national achievements, including progress toward self-sufficiency in eight key agricultural commodities. At the same time, the government continues to work to improve fertilizer distribution so that farmers can access what they need more easily and efficiently.

Beyond the food sector, the government has also made progress in the domestic downstream processing of raw materials, which the President said could generate additional economic value. These achievements, he said, were the result of collective efforts by all elements of society, driven by the spirit of mutual cooperation to build an independent, self-reliant and competitive Indonesia.

The President also called on the government to remain responsive to the various problems faced by the public. Every policy decision and development project, he said, must begin with people's needs and deliver benefits that can be directly felt by the community.

"Every step of our development must benefit the people fairly and equitably," the President emphasized.

This message is also highly relevant to the Labuhanbatu Selatan Government. National policies in food security, energy, investment and downstream industrial processing are closely connected to people's daily lives and the economic development of the regions.

Labuhanbatu Selatan DPRD Strengthens Cooperation With Regional Government

Representing the regional legislature, Deputy Speaker of the Labuhanbatu Selatan DPRD H.M. Romadon Nasution, S.H., also attended the plenary session. He regarded the state event as strategically important for the regional government and DPRD in gaining a clearer understanding of the direction of national policy.

"This plenary session is part of the state agenda to listen to the address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, particularly regarding the performance reports of state institutions and the various achievements of the government," Romadon said.

The session subsequently addressed a number of achievements under President Prabowo, including government policies in the energy and fuel sectors.

Fuel, or BBM, was a particular focus because related policies have a direct impact on people's daily lives. Fuel availability and pricing can affect transportation costs, the distribution of goods, economic activity and even the prices of essential commodities.

For Labuhanbatu Selatan, national energy policy is directly linked to the condition of the population and regional economic development. Therefore, the regional government and DPRD must continue to closely monitor policies issued by the central government so that their implementation at the local level can produce positive benefits for the community.

Romadon emphasized that the Labuhanbatu Selatan DPRD would continue to carry out its institutional duties while taking into account central government policies that directly affect the interests of the people.

In his view, close cooperation between the central government, regional government and DPRD is essential to ensure that development progresses sustainably and remains focused on the needs of the population.

Translating National Policy Into Regional Programs

The participation of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Government and DPRD in the event also provided an opportunity to gain a broader understanding of national development. The President's address and the government's achievements can serve as a reference for the DPRD in carrying out its three core functions: legislation, oversight and budgeting.

The plenary session was therefore more than simply a forum for listening to the state address. The regional government and DPRD must translate the direction of national policy into regional measures that reflect the specific conditions and needs of the people of Labuhanbatu Selatan.

Regent Fery Sahputra Simatupang, together with the Labuhanbatu Selatan Government team, attended the entire event. His participation underscored the administration's commitment to strengthening coordination and aligning Labusel's development programs with national development priorities.

The event was also attended by numerous regional officials and community figures. They included Deputy Regent of Labusel Syahdian Purba Siboro, Chairman of the Labusel DPRD Ari Winata, Deputy Chairwoman of the Labusel DPRD Irmayanti Siregar, H.M. Romadon Nasution, members of the DPRD, Regional Secretary M. Reza Pahlevi Nasution, the Regent's assistants and advisers, heads of regional agencies, district heads, religious and community leaders, as well as other invited guests.

The central message of the 2026 MPR RI Annual Session serves as a reminder to all stakeholders that the ultimate measure of development success is the tangible benefit it provides to the people.

For Labuhanbatu Selatan, this approach is particularly important because regional development cannot be pursued in isolation. National policies, particularly those concerning food security, energy, investment, downstream industrial processing and public welfare, have a direct impact on people's lives in the regions.

Therefore, cooperation between the central and regional governments is crucial to ensure that strategic policies do not remain merely national achievement figures. Regional governments must translate these policy directions into programs that genuinely address the needs of the people.

The Labusel DPRD's special plenary session, held in conjunction with the 2026 Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI, therefore carried broader significance. President Prabowo's address provides the Labuhanbatu Selatan Government and DPRD with a basis for assessing the country's future development while ensuring that national policies deliver tangible benefits to the people of Labuhanbatu Selatan.

President Prabowo emphasized that the government would continue working tirelessly to realize a more prosperous, just and dignified Indonesia.

This message also places a shared responsibility on the Labuhanbatu Selatan Government and DPRD to ensure that the spirit of national development reaches the people in concrete ways, including in Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency. (IDNC)
