DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Government has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding children's rights and strengthening child protection as part of the commemoration of the 42nd National Children's Day (Hari Anak Nasional/HAN) at the Deli Serdang Regency level in 2026.
The event was held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at
Deli Serdang Fruit Park under the theme "Love Children, Protect Them and Shape the Future." The National Children's Day celebration featured a wide range of activities designed to give children opportunities to play, express themselves freely and learn. At the same time, the children were introduced to various professions and cultural traditions.
Hundreds of children enthusiastically participated in the activities. The program included traditional games, rides on a fire truck, a young professions parade, a Batik Ciprat parade, horse-drawn carriage rides, free health screenings and a flying fox attraction.
The event was not merely intended to entertain children, but also formed part of the regional government's efforts to create an environment that supports children's healthy growth and development. By directly involving children in the celebration, the government sought to ensure that National Children's Day would not remain merely a ceremonial event, but would also provide children with positive and meaningful experiences.
Ensuring Children's Rights from an Early Age
The commemoration of the 42nd National Children's Day at the
Deli Serdang Regency level also served as an important moment to further strengthen the fulfillment of children's civil rights. During the event, the government distributed Child Identity Cards (KIA) and birth certificates to children.
In addition, children who had reached the age of 17 received their Indonesian identity cards (KTP). Children with disabilities were also provided with wheelchairs as concrete support for their needs and their right to appropriate assistive devices in carrying out their daily activities.
The organizing committee also presented awards to the winners of drawing and coloring competitions. Children from kindergartens and elementary schools performed poetry readings, traditional dances and various other artistic performances.
The appearance of Indonesia's 2026 Autonomy Princess, Yemima Sitanggang, also added to the festive atmosphere. Her presence gave a special touch to an event in which children were placed at the center of the celebration.

TP PKK, Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan, said National Children's Day was an important occasion to remind all stakeholders of the importance of upholding children's rights and protecting children.
According to her, children are a trust entrusted to society, the nation's next generation and a valuable asset that requires the attention and protection of all elements of society. Therefore, families, schools and the social environment must provide children with safe spaces in which to grow and develop.
She called on all stakeholders to create safe and child-friendly environments. Such protection, she said, must include efforts to prevent violence, discrimination, exploitation and drug abuse, while also ensuring proper spiritual guidance.
"On the occasion of the 42nd National Children's Day, I call on all elements of society to strengthen their commitment to upholding children's rights and providing every child with the best possible protection. Let us make families, schools and the social environment safe, comfortable and child-friendly places, so that our children are protected from all forms of violence, discrimination, exploitation and drug abuse and receive proper spiritual guidance," she said.

TP PKK, emphasized the central role of the family in shaping children's character. In her view, the family is not only a place where children receive love and affection, but also the most important environment for guidance and character education.
This role has become increasingly important amid rapid technological development. The growing presence of digital devices in children's daily lives requires parents to provide closer guidance so that children can use technology appropriately while continuing to grow in a healthy developmental environment.
Titiek said the
TP PKK would continue to support efforts to improve family quality through the 10 core PKK programs. These programs, she explained, serve as an important approach to strengthening family capacity so that families can uphold children's rights while providing the best possible protection.
She expressed hope that the 42nd National Children's Day in Deli Serdang would further strengthen cooperation among the regional government, TP PKK, the education sector, families and the wider community in creating an environment that meets children's needs.

National Children's Day Activities Held Since July
The main celebration of the 42nd National Children's Day at the Deli Serdang Regency level was part of a series of activities that began in July 2026. Previously, the committee organized the CHIL – Curhat, Healing and Let's Go – program at SMP Negeri 1 Pantai Labu and SMP Negeri 4 Tanjung Morawa.
The
Deli Serdang Regency Government subsequently held a ceremony on July 23, 2026, to commemorate National Children's Day. The series of activities continued on August 5, 2026, with a drawing and coloring competition.
The various activities demonstrated the regional government's efforts to commemorate National Children's Day through programs addressing different aspects of children's lives. In addition to providing space for play and self-expression, the series also aimed to uphold civil rights, promote health, education and creativity, and strengthen child protection.
The involvement of various stakeholders is an important element in ensuring the sustainability of these efforts. The government cannot ensure
child protection on its own. Families, schools, community organizations and the immediate social environment share responsibility for creating safe and comfortable spaces for children to grow and develop.
Among those attending the celebration were Deli Serdang Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo, Expert Adviser I of the Deli Serdang TP PKK Asniar Lom Lom Suwondo, several heads of regional government agencies, teachers, parents and hundreds of children.

TP PKK and all elements of society are expected to continue this commitment through policies, programs and an environment that places children's interests and well-being at the center of attention.
