MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Deli Serdang Deputy Mayor Lom Lom Suwondo SS attended the opening ceremony of the 12th Provincial Conference (Musyawarah Provinsi/Musprov) of the Indonesian Red Cross (Palang Merah Indonesia/PMI) of North Sumatra Province on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Grand Mercure Medan Hotel.
The presence of the
Deli Serdang Deputy Mayor reflected the Deli Serdang Regency Government's support in strengthening cooperation between local governments and PMI in delivering
humanitarian services to the community.
The 12th PMI North Sumatra Provincial Conference, held from July 23 to 24, 2026, carries the theme: "Building a Professional, Independent, and Community-Loved PMI of North Sumatra Province in Humanitarian Service."
The event was officially opened by the Governor of North Sumatra, who was represented by the Assistant for Government Affairs and Community Welfare at the North Sumatra Provincial Secretariat, Basarin Yunus Tanjung.
Government Strengthens Support for PMI Humanitarian Programs
In the governor's speech delivered by Basarin Yunus Tanjung, it was emphasized that the government will continue to support efforts to strengthen PMI's capacity in implementing various humanitarian programs.
According to him, PMI plays an important role in supporting communities through various services, including disaster response, blood donation services, volunteer training, and improving public awareness and preparedness.
Basarin explained that the government cannot address all humanitarian challenges alone. Therefore, collaboration between the government, PMI, the business sector, universities, media organizations, and all elements of society must continue to be strengthened.
"Future humanitarian challenges cannot be handled individually but must be answered through the spirit of mutual assistance and solidarity," he said.
He expressed hope that stronger cross-sector cooperation would further enhance PMI's ability to provide fast, accurate, and beneficial services for the people of North Sumatra.

PMI North Sumatra Appreciates Volunteers and Strategic Partners
The Chairman of PMI North Sumatra Province, Rahmat Shah, expressed his appreciation to all board members, volunteers, regional governments, companies, and various partners who supported the implementation of PMI humanitarian programs during the 2021–2026 leadership period.
Rahmat Shah considered this support an important foundation in strengthening PMI's role as a professional, independent humanitarian organization that continues to gain public trust.
He also praised the dedication of volunteers who have remained at the forefront of various social and humanitarian activities. According to him, PMI's success in assisting communities cannot be separated from the cooperation of all parties committed to humanitarian values.

PMI North Sumatra Musprov serves as an important momentum for the organization to evaluate various programs that have been implemented while formulating strategic steps to address future challenges in
humanitarian services.

PMI North Sumatra Musprov XII Presents Humanitarian Awards
In addition to organizational discussions, the 12th PMI North Sumatra Provincial Conference was also marked by the presentation of humanitarian awards to volunteers and PMI partners who have made significant contributions to various public assistance programs.
The awards represent PMI's appreciation for individuals and institutions that have consistently supported humanitarian activities and strengthened PMI's presence within the community.
The 12th PMI North Sumatra Musprov was attended by representatives of the North Sumatra Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), members of the PMI Central Board, PMI district and city executives across North Sumatra, volunteers, humanitarian partners, as well as several regional heads and representatives from regency and city governments.
Through the implementation of the 12th Musprov,
PMI North Sumatra is expected to further strengthen organizational consolidation and improve the quality of
humanitarian services for communities across all regions of North Sumatra.
