ACEH TAMIANG | INDATANEWS.COM -The Alumni Association of Universitas Gadjah Mada (KAGAMA) has intensified its efforts to support recovery from the hydrometeorological disaster in Aceh Tamiang Regency. On Sunday, July 5, 2026, KAGAMA officially handed over 26 units of temporary housing (huntara) to residents of Sekumur Village in Sekerak Sub-district. The assistance forms part of the "KAGAMA Peduli Bencana" program, which aims to provide adequate living conditions for affected communities during the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction phase.
The handover ceremony was conducted symbolically with the participation of various stakeholders from the central and regional governments, academia, and alumni organizations. This broad involvement highlights strong cross-sector collaboration aimed at accelerating recovery in disaster-affected areas.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, who also serves as Secretary-General of the KAGAMA Central Board, Nezar Patria, Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada Prof. dr. Ova Emilia, Ph.D., and Secretary of Aceh Province M. Nasir. Aceh Tamiang Regent Armia Fahmi and representatives of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) were also present.
Commitment to Community Recovery
The provision of temporary shelters represents a tangible expression of KAGAMA's solidarity with communities still struggling in the aftermath of the natural disaster. The housing units are expected to offer safe and dignified accommodation for residents until permanent housing reconstruction is completed.
Beyond material assistance, the event also served as a platform to strengthen coordination between the central government, regional authorities, civil society organizations, and local communities to ensure a more efficient recovery process.

Role of Alumni in Disaster Response
Aceh Provincial Secretary and KAGAMA Aceh Chairperson M. Nasir emphasized that Universitas Gadjah Mada alumni have demonstrated their commitment to disaster response at both regional and national levels.
He noted that the contributions of UGM alumni extend beyond humanitarian aid, encompassing broader community recovery initiatives following disasters.
"KAGAMA has been actively involved in various disaster response efforts. As Secretary of Aceh Province, I am committed to continuing contributions to Aceh's post-disaster development, in line with the directive of Aceh Governor H. Muzakir Manaf to accelerate recovery for affected communities," Nasir said.
He further stressed that the Aceh government will continue strengthening collaboration with various stakeholders to accelerate the fulfillment of community needs.
SKPA Support to Accelerate Assistance
During his visit to Sekumur, Nasir was accompanied by several heads of Satuan Kerja Perangkat Aceh (SKPA) to ensure coordinated and effective assistance. Among them were the Head of the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) and the Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources Office (ESDM) of Aceh.
The involvement of these agencies aims to ensure targeted and integrated support. The ESDM office is specifically supporting electricity provision through solar-powered lamps, while BPBA is responsible for logistics distribution.
"We deliberately involved the Head of ESDM to support electricity access through solar energy, while BPBA handles logistics distribution for the community," Nasir explained.
Infrastructure Still Severely Affected
Conditions in Sekumur indicate that the area continues to face significant post-disaster challenges. Access roads require urgent improvement to facilitate mobility and aid distribution.
Homes and public facilities also remain damaged and in need of restoration, with many residents still unable to fully return to normal life.
The 26 temporary shelters provided are expected to offer immediate relief and security for affected families while reconstruction efforts continue.
The Aceh government and KAGAMA reaffirmed their commitment to continuing collaboration with various partners to restore infrastructure, basic services, and social stability in stages.
Nasir expressed hope that the joint presence of government and alumni organizations would strengthen community morale.
"The presence of KAGAMA and the Aceh government in Sekumur is intended to motivate residents and ease their burden during the post-disaster recovery phase," he concluded. (IDNC)
