DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM – The Chairperson of the Family Welfare Empowerment Movement (TP PKK) of Deli Serdang Regency, Ny. Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan, has emphasized the crucial role of women as the central driving force in building healthy, independent, and prosperous families. She delivered the statement as a speaker during the basic training session of the Integrated Program for Strengthening Women's Role toward Healthy and Prosperous Families (PTP2WKSS), organized by the Community and Village Empowerment Office (PMD) of Deli Serdang Regency in Percut Village, Percut Sei Tuan Subdistrict, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The three-day training, held from June 22 to 24, 2026, involved 35 female participants of the
PTP2WKSS program. The initiative aims to enhance women's competencies so they can actively contribute to improving family welfare while also supporting development at the village level.
Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan stressed that family health is not solely an individual responsibility, but a fundamental foundation for developing high-quality and competitive human resources. Women, she said, hold a strategic position as they are at the center of family life and play a major role in shaping children's early habits.
She further explained that women serve as the "first school" for their children. In this role, they are not only responsible for household duties but also act as key agents in promoting a healthy lifestyle within the family.
"Women are the first school for their children and the main actors within the family. Through PTP2WKSS, we aim to develop empowered women who practice healthy lifestyles, ensure family nutrition quality, and act as agents of change in their communities," she said.

Strengthening Family Health Awareness
She also highlighted that family health is influenced by various essential factors, including balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, stress management, routine health check-ups, and adequate rest. These elements must be integrated into daily family life.
She further underscored the importance of maternal health, exclusive breastfeeding, monitoring child growth and development, immunization, prevention of anemia among adolescent girls, as well as regular health screenings for the productive-age population and the elderly. All of these are integral components of quality family health development.
Collaborative Efforts to Prevent Stunting and Improve Quality of Life
In her presentation, Ny. Jelita also addressed various health challenges at the grassroots level. Issues such as stunting, maternal and child health, and inadequate sanitation remain key concerns that must be addressed collectively.
She emphasized that resolving these issues requires cross-sector collaboration involving the government, health cadres, and the community through sustainable empowerment programs. Without strong cooperation, improvements in quality of life will be difficult to achieve at an optimal pace.
The PTP2WKSS program, she added, is not merely a women's empowerment initiative but a strategic instrument to accelerate family-based village development through integrated, cross-sectoral collaboration aimed at improving community welfare.

Concrete Actions from the Family Level
Beyond theoretical learning, Jelita called for practical actions at the household level. These include strengthening the first 1,000 days of life, optimizing
Posyandu services, and utilizing home gardens as "living food reserves," "home shops," and "living pharmacies."
She also encouraged families to implement a daily one-hour quality time initiative to strengthen emotional bonds and improve household well-being.
"With the spirit of
PTP2WKSS, we aim to empower women to build healthy and prosperous families," she concluded.
