BANDA ACEH | INDATANEWS.COM - Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf has called on all government agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen preparedness amid a possible increase in rainfall expected from September 2026. The weather conditions could increase the risk of hydrometeorological disasters in several parts of Aceh.
Muzakir Manaf emphasized that the anticipated increase in rainfall must be taken seriously at an early stage. The
Aceh Government, together with all relevant agencies, must prepare preventive and
disaster preparedness measures to ensure that potential
floods,
landslides and other disasters do not have a greater impact on the community.
"This situation must be closely monitored by all of us, as it could increase the risk of floods, landslides and other disasters in several areas," Muzakir Manaf said.
He made the statement during a meeting with
Aceh Police Chief Inspector General Ruddi Setiawan and
Aceh Regional House of Representatives (DPRA) Chairman Zulfadhli, also known as Abang Samalanga. The meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon, September 2, 2026, at the
Aceh Governor's office in Banda
Aceh.
Aceh Government spokesman Nurlis Effendi said the meeting also discussed measures that needed to be prepared by the government and all relevant agencies in response to a possible increase in disaster risks resulting from changing weather conditions.
The meeting was also attended by Acting Secretary of the
Aceh Provincial Government Taufik, Secretary of the
Aceh Party faction at the DPRA, Hendri Muliana, and
Aceh Police Director of Intelligence and Security Commissioner Said Anna Fauza.
Warning of Potential Heavy Rainfall
Weather forecasts issued by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) are among the key references for the government's efforts to strengthen preparedness. According to the BMKG assessment,
Aceh could experience moderate- to high-intensity rainfall beginning in September 2026.
Previously, the BMKG had temporarily classified Aceh as an area with the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall under the "Siaga" (Alert) category. The agency later changed the classification to "Waspada" (Caution).
The development prompted the
Aceh Government not to wait until a disaster occurs before taking action. According to Nurlis, Governor Mualem instructed all stakeholders to use weather forecasts as a basis for increasing operational readiness in their respective areas.
"Information regarding a possible increase in rainfall must be taken very seriously by all levels of government and the relevant agencies," Governor Muzakir Manaf said.
Muzakir Manaf said preventive measures must be initiated at an early stage so that the government has sufficient room to reduce potential risks. These measures include coordination among agencies, personnel readiness and a rapid response in the event of an emergency.
"The most important thing is that we take preventive and preparedness measures as early as possible so that we can reduce disaster risks and potential casualties among the public."

Strengthening Coordination on the Ground
During the meeting,
Muzakir Manaf, the
Aceh Police chief and the DPRA chairman discussed the importance of strengthening
disaster preparedness and operational readiness in anticipation of potential hydrometeorological disasters.
The Aceh Government and all relevant agencies must ensure that all instruments and resources needed for disaster management are ready for deployment. Inter-agency coordination must also be improved so that the government can respond quickly to floods, landslides and other disasters caused by extreme weather conditions.
Muzakir Manaf also underlined the importance of cooperation among all members of
Aceh's Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda). The involvement of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri), together with district and city governments and relevant technical agencies, is an important component in establishing an effective preparedness system.
Cross-sectoral cooperation will help the government implement decisions and measures more quickly during a disaster. Strong coordination can also ensure that the needs of affected communities are addressed promptly.
Public safety must remain the highest priority in responding to potential disasters. Therefore, every actor involved in disaster management must understand their respective duties and responsibilities and maintain continuous communication.

Maintaining Stability and Identifying Risks Early
In addition to potential disaster risks, the meeting also served as a forum to coordinate various current developments and the situation in Aceh. Communication between the Aceh Government, police and legislature is important to maintaining regional stability.
Inter-agency coordination enables authorities to jointly monitor and address various issues across the region. The government can coordinate its measures with security agencies and other relevant institutions, particularly in situations requiring a rapid response.
The Aceh Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness and operational readiness as part of its efforts to protect the public. The government will also continue to promote coordination with district and city governments as well as relevant agencies to prepare for various potential risks.
These measures are particularly important because hydrometeorological disasters such as
floods and
landslides can occur as rainfall increases, especially in areas considered highly vulnerable to disasters.
Through early preparation, the government hopes to reduce potential damage and casualties among the public. Weather information, cooperation among various institutions and rapid response capabilities are key elements in dealing with changing conditions on the ground.
The meeting between the
Aceh Governor,
Aceh Police Chief and DPRA chairman took place in a friendly atmosphere. The three sides discussed various developments in
Aceh while coordinating their respective measures in anticipation of potential hydrometeorological disasters associated with increased rainfall.
The Aceh Government emphasized that preparedness is not solely the responsibility of the government, but requires the support of all relevant stakeholders. Strong cooperation can ensure that prevention and disaster response measures are implemented more quickly and effectively, while keeping public safety as the top priority. (IDNC)
