JAKARTA | INDATANEWS.COM - PT Hutama Karya (Persero) is continuing its commitment to communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) by providing emergency assistance. The aid includes staple foods, ready-to-eat meals, mineral water, hygiene and sanitation supplies, necessities for infants and adults, medicines, and medical equipment.
Hutama Karya delivered the aid on Thursday, August 20, 2026, through the NTT Disaster Response Post of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) at Halim Perdanakusuma, East Jakarta. The company is providing the assistance in stages to support the needs of disaster-affected communities across several areas of Flores Island.
The emergency assistance reflects Hutama Karya's support for residents affected across seven regencies and one city on Flores Island. According to the BNPB's latest data as of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 4 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, a total of 59,647 people had been forced to leave their homes and seek refuge in temporary shelters as a result of the disaster.
Manggarai Regency recorded the highest number of evacuees, with 20,333 people. The earthquake also claimed 71 lives. Given the scale of the disaster, ensuring the availability of basic necessities for residents during the emergency response phase remains one of the key priorities.
Hutama Karya's emergency response is guided by the Decree of the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara No. 305/KEP/HK/2026, which declared an earthquake disaster emergency in NTT Province. The company is focusing its assistance on providing essential goods, food, and medicines to residents in temporary shelters.

Aid Supplies Distributed in Stages
Through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) team, Hutama Karya delivered its first shipment of assistance on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, to the NTT Central Disaster Response Team of BNPB at the NTT–Halim Perdanakusuma Disaster Response Post in East Jakarta.
Harya Digdaya, a TJSL analyst at Hutama Karya, handed over the aid to Mr. Ery, representing the BNPB Central NTT Disaster Response Team. The company's subsidiary, PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI), also participated in providing assistance to communities affected by the disaster.
The company supplied a range of daily necessities, including food, ready-to-eat meals, mineral water, sanitation and hygiene products, supplies for infants and adults, medicines, and medical equipment. The assistance continued on Thursday, August 20, 2026, with a second shipment consisting of tarpaulins and blankets.
Hutama Karya initially consolidated all logistics supplies at the NTT–Halim Perdanakusuma Disaster Response Post before transporting them to the affected areas. The aid was then transported from Jakarta aboard a Hercules aircraft and distributed through the NTT Provincial Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to various temporary shelters where the supplies were needed.
This mechanism enables aid to reach affected areas from Jakarta through a coordinated transportation network. Hutama Karya is also maintaining continuous coordination with the government and relevant stakeholders to ensure that assistance reaches affected communities based on actual needs on the ground.

Support for Infrastructure Recovery
In addition to meeting residents' basic needs, Hutama Karya has begun supporting post-disaster recovery efforts. The company has deployed heavy equipment to Pota Village in East Manggarai Regency to support recovery and restoration work in the disaster-affected area.
For two other affected areas, Ende–Maumere and Sikka Regency, Hutama Karya is currently assessing local conditions and actual needs on the ground. The findings will serve as the basis for determining the type and number of heavy equipment units that should be deployed in those areas.
Hamdani, Acting Executive Vice President (EVP) of Corporate Secretary at Hutama Karya, said the emergency assistance reflected the company's responsibility and commitment to communities affected by the disaster. Hutama Karya, he said, aims to work alongside the government and relevant stakeholders in contributing to disaster response efforts.
"Hutama Karya is committed to supporting emergency disaster response efforts for communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara. In addition to meeting basic needs through the distribution of aid, we have also begun supporting post-disaster recovery by deploying heavy equipment to affected areas. For other areas, we are continuing to conduct on-site needs assessments so that our assistance is aligned with local conditions and the needs of the community," Hamdani said.
Hamdani emphasized that Hutama Karya continues to monitor developments in the affected areas. The company is also coordinating with the government and relevant stakeholders to ensure that all assistance is delivered in a coordinated and targeted manner.
The company will adjust the nature of its assistance according to the evolving needs of residents throughout the emergency response phase and into the recovery period. This includes both meeting basic needs and supporting infrastructure restoration in earthquake-affected areas.
Hutama Karya reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to serve communities and, in particular, to remain present during disaster situations. Through its social and environmental responsibility programs and cooperation with various partners, the company is working to support disaster response efforts and the gradual, sustainable recovery of communities and infrastructure.
