MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 1 has conducted vehicle emission tests at Buffer Area Gate 2 of Belawan Port in Medan, North Sumatra. The initiative is part of the company's commitment to protecting and improving environmental quality in the port area.
As part of its Social and Environmental Responsibility (Tanggung Jawab Sosial dan Lingkungan/TJSL) program, Pelindo Regional 1 carried out the activity for three days, from August 19 to 21, 2026. Held under the theme "Merdeka dari Emisi untuk Pelabuhan Lebih Hijau" ("Freedom from Emissions for a Greener Port"), the initiative targeted vehicles operating in or entering the Belawan Port area.
The emission tests are among Pelindo Regional 1's efforts to raise environmental awareness, particularly in reducing potential air pollution caused by vehicle emissions. At the same time, the initiative encourages vehicle owners and users to pay greater attention to the technical condition of their vehicles before operating them in the port area.
Raising Awareness for Better Air Quality
Pelindo Regional 1 Manager of Legal and Public Relations, Fadillah Haryono, said the initiative was a concrete step by the company to support the development of a more environmentally friendly port area.
"Through this TJSL program, we aim to strengthen collective awareness of the importance of good air quality in the port area. Emission testing is one way to determine the emission condition of vehicles while also encouraging vehicle users to adopt a more responsible approach to environmental protection," Fadillah said.
According to him, the high level of vehicle activity in the port area means that environmental impacts must also receive greater attention. Vehicle mobility is an essential part of port operations and contributes to the smooth flow of logistics traffic. At the same time, vehicle users need to consider the impact of their vehicles on air quality.
For this reason, Pelindo Regional 1 is not only focused on ensuring smooth port operations but is also calling on all parties operating in the port area to share responsibility for environmental protection.

Emission Tests for Vehicles Operating in the Port
As part of the initiative, authorized personnel checked the exhaust emissions of vehicles operating in or entering the port area. The testing was intended to assess vehicle emission conditions while simultaneously increasing awareness among vehicle owners and users of the importance of maintaining good air quality.
Fadillah emphasized that Pelindo's environmental commitment goes hand in hand with its responsibility to manage port operations and support the smooth movement of goods and logistics.
"Pelindo is not focused solely on smooth operations and logistics traffic, but is also committed to environmental protection. We hope this initiative will strengthen collective awareness and contribute to making Belawan Port greener and more sustainable," he said.
The emission testing also encourages vehicle owners and users to pay greater attention to engine conditions and combustion systems. Regular vehicle maintenance can help reduce potential exhaust emissions that may affect the environment surrounding the port area.
