PREPARATIONS FOR THE SCOUT DELEGATION GATHER PACE: Al Washliyah Tanjung Morawa in Deli Serdang Regency is stepping up preparations for its Scout group and training 25 dancers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Kemsama SAKO of the Al Washliyah Scouts of North Sumatra.

TANJUNG MORAWA | INDATANEWS.COM - Al Washliyah Tanjung Morawa Private Islamic Junior Secondary School in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, is stepping up preparations to send its best young Scouts to the 2026 Joint Camp of the Al Washliyah Scout Community Organisation (Kemsama SAKO) in North Sumatra. Alongside developing their scouting skills, the school is preparing 25 pupils to perform traditional dances from various regions of Indonesia at the opening ceremony, showcasing the country's cultural diversity.

The 2026 Kemsama SAKO of the Al Washliyah Scout Community Organisation in North Sumatra is scheduled to take place from 22 to 25 October 2026 at Singapura Land in Batu Bara Regency. The event will bring together Al Washliyah Scouts from regencies and cities across North Sumatra. Its objectives are to strengthen fellowship, develop practical skills and foster character among the younger generation.

The school's head, Edi Jatmiko, S.Pd.I., M.Pd., emphasised that the school was preparing participants comprehensively for the camp. The preparations include developing physical fitness, mental resilience, independence and discipline, while reinforcing Islamic values and the distinctive principles of the Al Washliyah community.

Over recent weeks, members of the school's Scout group have taken part in regular training sessions in the school grounds on Jalan Bandar Labuhan, in Dagang Kerawan village, Tanjung Morawa District. The exercises form part of the school's efforts to prepare participants specifically for the province-wide event.

Scouting Skills and Character Development Take Centre Stage

The training programme covers a range of scouting skills, including tent pitching, pioneering activities, knot-tying techniques, field navigation, and the use of coded messages and Morse code. Participants also regularly practise marching in step and basic parade formations to strengthen their discipline. Physical training sessions complement these activities.

Alongside practical skills, the school also provides cultural and religious instruction. Pupils are preparing artistic performances, memorising verses from the Quran and prayers, and deepening their understanding of how to apply Islamic values in everyday life.

Edi explained that the preparations were not solely intended to compete or contribute to the success of the camp. Rather, Kemsama should serve as an opportunity to build character. The school hopes to help pupils become young people of good character who act independently and responsibly, demonstrate discipline and make a positive contribution to society.

"Our participation in the 2026 Kemsama SAKO of the Al Washliyah Scouts of North Sumatra is not simply about attending an ordinary camp. It is an opportunity to shape the character of young members of the Al Washliyah community, enabling them to demonstrate good manners, independence and a willingness to contribute to society. We want the children to conduct themselves with a high level of discipline, uphold the good name of their school and region and, above all, put the Dasadarma Scout principles and Islamic values into practice throughout the event," Edi said.

In his view, participants' success should not be measured solely by their achievements during the event. Equally important is whether they apply scouting values in their daily lives, behave appropriately, respect other participants and demonstrate responsibility as pupils.

Traditional Dances to Enrich the Opening Ceremony

In addition to taking part in the regular scouting programme, Al Washliyah Tanjung Morawa has been given the opportunity to showcase its pupils' artistic talents at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Kemsama SAKO of the Al Washliyah Scouts of North Sumatra.

To prepare for the occasion, the school is training 25 pupils from its dance group to perform traditional dances from various regions of Indonesia. The performance is intended to highlight the country's cultural wealth while giving the school's pupils an opportunity to present their artistic abilities to an audience from across the province.

Edi said the performance was being carefully prepared to ensure that the pupils could deliver an engaging show reflecting Indonesia's cultural diversity. Through traditional dance, the school wants to demonstrate that education is not limited to imparting knowledge and academic skills, but also provides opportunities for creativity, cultural appreciation and the development of individual talents.

"At the opening ceremony of Kemsama, Al Washliyah Tanjung Morawa will send 25 pupils from its own dance group onto the stage to perform traditional dances from various regions of Indonesia. This carefully prepared performance reflects our appreciation of the country's cultural heritage. At the same time, it will bring Indonesia's cultural diversity and the pupils' artistic creativity to the fore at a provincial-level event," Edi said.

The dance group's involvement also broadens the significance of the school's participation in Kemsama. Pupils will not only have the opportunity to demonstrate their scouting skills, but also to introduce traditional cultural heritage as an integral part of Indonesia's national identity.
