JAKARTA | INDATANEWS.COM – The Aceh Provincial Government and PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry have officially signed a cooperation agreement for the operation of the Jakarta–Malahayati Port ferry route in Aceh. The signing ceremony took place at the ASDP headquarters in Jakarta on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The partnership is regarded as a strategic move to strengthen Indonesia's maritime connectivity while opening a new logistics corridor linking Java and
Aceh.
Strategic Role Along the Malacca Strait

Aceh's geographical position along the international shipping lane of the Malacca Strait.
"Besides strengthening maritime connectivity, Aceh has a highly strategic geographical position on the international shipping route of the Malacca Strait," Nasir said.
He added that the Jakarta–Malahayati Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) ferry service is expected to play a significant role in accelerating regional economic growth.

According to Nasir, the distribution of goods from Java to
Aceh has so far relied heavily on overland transportation routes across Sumatra, which often involve long travel times and high operational costs.
"This requires long transportation times and high operational costs," he stated.

Aceh administration expects faster logistics distribution and more efficient supply chains. The route is also expected to expand market access for
Aceh's leading products and improve the competitiveness of the province's economy.
"The route will improve logistics distribution, shorten transportation times, create more efficient supply chains, expand market access for Aceh's flagship products, and support regional economic growth," Nasir added.
COMMITMENT TO FERRY SERVICE EXPANSION: PT
ASDP Indonesia Ferry Deputy President Director Yossianis Marciano reaffirmed the company's commitment to expanding Long Distance Ferry services.

He explained that the new route forms part of
ASDP's broader strategy to develop its Long Distance Ferry (LDF) services.
"The focus of this cooperation is the operation and development of the strategic Jakarta–Malahayati Port ferry route as part of ASDP's service transformation to strengthen Long Distance Ferry services," Marciano said.
