MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Indonesia's state-owned pawnshop company, PT Pegadaian (Persero), through its Regional Office I Medan, has introduced a gold ATM linked to the Tring! app. The service enables customers to purchase and collect physical gold quickly, conveniently and securely. The innovation forms part of the company's efforts to widen access to gold investments and meet growing demand for digital financial services.
Pegadaian opened the first gold ATM serving North Sumatra and Aceh on Thursday, 15 October 2026, at its Medan Utama branch on Jalan Pegadaian in Medan. Customers can purchase and collect
physical gold during Pegadaian's business hours, until 6 pm local time.
The new machine significantly changes the traditional process of obtaining physical gold. According to Pegadaian, customers who previously had to wait between 15 and 45 working days for physical gold to be minted or withdrawn can now complete the process within minutes.
Yohanis Wulang, Head of PT Pegadaian (Persero) Regional Office I Medan, said the innovation was part of the company's strategy to make gold investments more accessible to the public.
"With the introduction of this Pegadaian gold ATM, the process of minting or withdrawing physical gold, which previously took 15 to 45 working days, can now be completed within minutes," Yohanis said at the service's launch.
Pegadaian has also integrated the gold ATM with the
Tring! app to connect digital transactions with ownership of
physical gold. Under its gold savings account system, the company emphasises that every gram recorded in a customer's account is backed by an equivalent amount of
physical gold on a one-to-one basis.
The initiative forms part of Pegadaian's wider transformation. The company is moving beyond traditional pawnbroking services by developing modern solutions for gold investments. By backing digital gold holdings with physical gold and simplifying collection procedures, Pegadaian aims to strengthen public confidence in digital gold investment services.
Digital Access to Physical Gold
The opening of the gold ATM in Medan coincided with the first anniversary of the Tring! app, which Pegadaian celebrated under the name "Tring!versary". To mark the occasion, the company introduced 20 strategically located gold ATMs across 12 regional locations throughout Indonesia.
Yohanis said expanding the ATM network was intended to make
physical gold more accessible while improving public understanding of gold investments.
"The gold ATM is intended to make physical gold more accessible to the public while demonstrating that gold investments can be simple, transparent and highly secure," Yohanis said.
Each gold ATM can hold up to 4,000 grams of gold. Customers can choose from several denominations: 1 gram, 2 grams, 5 grams, 10 grams, 25 grams, 50 grams and 100 grams.
This range offers greater flexibility for people with different investment objectives and financial circumstances. Customers can tailor their purchases or collections of physical gold to the available denominations and Pegadaian's applicable transaction requirements.
Integration with Tring! also accelerates the digitalisation of gold investment services. Customers can manage their gold savings accounts through the app and subsequently use the gold ATM to obtain
physical gold when needed.
Nevertheless, investors should familiarise themselves with transaction fees, minting requirements, withdrawal procedures and account security before investing. The technology offers the greatest benefits when customers also understand the characteristics and risks associated with gold investments.

More Than 10.37 Kilograms of Gold Transacted Nationwide
Demand for Pegadaian's gold ATMs is reflected in transaction figures recorded since the service began operating in June 2026. Nationwide, the company recorded 991 transactions between 25 June and 13 October 2026. Customers purchased or collected a total of 10,377 grams of gold, equivalent to approximately 10.37 kilograms.
The collection of physical gold accounted for the largest share of activity. Pegadaian recorded 953 collection transactions involving a total of 10,305 grams of gold. By comparison, 38 purchase transactions accounted for 72 grams of physical gold.
The figures indicate that many customers use the machines to collect
physical gold held in their accounts. The service also provides an alternative for people who want access to their gold without going through the more time-consuming conventional process.
Among the available denominations, the 1-gram unit was the most popular, accounting for 31 per cent of transactions when measured by the denominations requested. It was followed by 5-gram units at 24 per cent and 2-gram units at 18 per cent.
Demand for smaller gold units suggests that people can build their gold investments gradually. Larger denominations, meanwhile, provide an alternative for customers who need to obtain greater quantities of
physical gold in a single transaction.
Transaction volumes also increased over time. In June 2026, the amount of gold transacted stood at 110 grams. This rose to 1,584 grams in July before reaching 3,968 grams in August 2026.
The development offers an initial indication of the growing use of gold ATMs in Indonesia. However, the figures cover only the stated reporting period and, on their own, do not establish a broader trend in gold investment among the population.
Transactions were also recorded within the area served by Regional Office I Medan. From the machine's launch on 29 June until 13 October 2026, the gold ATM recorded 47 transactions involving a total of 404 grams of gold.
Of this amount, 403 grams came from
physical gold collections, while one gram was purchased. Pegadaian also reported that the average availability of gold denominations during the reporting period was 84.8 per cent.
These figures provide an initial picture of how the gold ATM is being used in North Sumatra and Aceh. Going forward, convenient access, adequate gold stocks and a better understanding of transaction procedures will be crucial to the service's development.

Pegadaian Expands Gold Investment Opportunities
The launch of the gold ATM in Medan was attended by Zeudy Aditama, Regional Manager III Medan at PT Galeri 24, and Agil Suwandi, Branch Manager at PT Brinks Solution Indonesia. Ni Ketut Intan Setiawati also attended as a representative of the Bullion Division at PT Pegadaian (Persero) Regional Office I Medan.
Other attendees included the Deputy Head of Operations at Regional Office I Medan, the head of the office's internal audit function, the deputy area managers for Medan 1 and Medan 2, regional and area department heads, branch managers and Pegadaian employees.
The participation of various company divisions and partners highlights the importance of operational coordination in introducing the new service. Partners involved in supplying and securing the gold also form part of the service network supporting transactions involving
physical gold.
By expanding its gold ATM network, Pegadaian is encouraging the public to use digital technology to manage investments more conveniently. However, prospective investors should still consider their financial goals, investment horizon and applicable fees before making a decision.
Gold can be a means of preserving wealth over the long term. However, gold prices fluctuate, and investors should recognise that gold investments do not guarantee profits in every period.
Under the hashtags #TenangSaja and #MulaidariTring!, Pegadaian is encouraging the public to embrace digital services and begin investing in gold according to their individual needs and financial circumstances.
The introduction of the gold ATM in Medan marks another step towards combining digital financial services with access to
physical gold. If the company can ensure reliable machine operations, adequate gold stocks, secure transactions and transparent fees, the innovation has the potential to make gold investments more accessible to a wider section of the population.
