Dekranas Focuses on Higher-Quality Artisan Development

The Chairperson of the National Craft Council (Dekranas), Selvi Ananda Gibran, stated in her speech that throughout its 46-year journey, Dekranas has played an important role as an institution dedicated to supporting and developing artisans in various regions across Indonesia.

According to Selvi, artisan development programs must continuously be adjusted to the actual needs of communities in the field. The success of empowerment programs should not only be measured by the number of activities conducted, but also by how far these programs provide concrete solutions to the challenges faced by artisans.

She encouraged all levels of Dekranas and Dekranasda throughout Indonesia to continue expanding their roles. They should not only serve as event organizers but also become mentors, facilitators, and bridges that provide artisans with wider opportunities and access.

This support includes improving product design, strengthening packaging quality, utilizing digital technology, developing marketing strategies, providing financial access, and opening opportunities for export markets.

"Once again, it is not only the number of empowerment programs that matters, but more importantly the quality of support that directly addresses the problems and challenges faced by artisans so that we can find solutions together," Selvi said.

Her statement emphasized the importance of a more targeted empowerment approach, enabling artisans to improve their business capabilities, enhance product quality, and strengthen their competitiveness at both national and international levels.
