IMPLEMENTING ESG AND DEI: Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok, through Senior Manager Corporate Secretary Fiona Sari Utami, explains the strategy for implementing ESG and DEI in building a sustainable port ecosystem during the IDEAS 2026 Conference in Jakarta.

JAKARTA | INDATANEWS.COM - PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP), a subsidiary of the Pelindo Group, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) as well as Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) as part of its sustainable business strategy. This commitment was demonstrated through Tanjung Priok Port's participation as a speaker at the Indonesia DEI & ESG Awards Conference (IDEAS) 2026, organized by PR Indonesia on Thursday, July 9, 2026, in Jakarta.

Carrying the theme "From Values to Impact: DEI and ESG Communication for a Sustainable Indonesia," the conference brought together professionals, academics, and industry leaders to discuss various best practices in implementing diversity, equity, inclusion, corporate governance, and sustainability principles in Indonesia.

At the event, Fiona Sari Utami, Senior Manager Corporate Secretary of Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok, served as one of the speakers alongside Gary Ng (Founder & Director of Infinity Continuity), Dr. Indra Ardiyanto (Corporate Communication and Sustainability Lecturer and Practitioner), Marthella Sirait (CEO of KONEKIN), and Mona Monika (Head of Marketing & Communications of PT Bank DBS Indonesia).

Fiona delivered a presentation titled "Diversity, Equity, and Growth Through ESG & DEI as an Ecosystem-Based Business Strategy for Port Operations." In her presentation, she emphasized that ESG and DEI are not merely elements of corporate responsibility, but strategic business approaches to building a port ecosystem capable of growing and developing sustainably over the long term.

Ports as a Sustainable Ecosystem

Fiona explained that the role of a port extends far beyond cargo loading and unloading activities. A port is part of a comprehensive ecosystem that connects various elements, ranging from national supply chains, businesses, and government institutions to communities and the environment.

"The port we operate is not only a place for loading and unloading activities, but an ecosystem that connects national supply chains, businesses, government, society, and the environment. Therefore, we view ESG as an approach to maintaining this ecosystem, while DEI represents the organization's ability to respond to the diversity and complexity of stakeholders," Fiona said during her presentation.

In implementing ESG principles in the environmental sector, Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok has developed various Green Port programs aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of port operations. These initiatives include the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting, the use of Overhead Cranes (OHC), the electrification of Grab Loading Cranes (GLC), the operation of wastewater treatment facilities (IPAL), and the implementation of a Port Waste Management System.

In addition, Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok continues to carry out environmental conservation programs, including the planting of 11,000 mangrove seedlings and other initiatives supporting sustainable coastal development.

In the social sector, Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok consistently implements Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs. These include strengthening coastal communities, disaster response assistance, blood donation activities, and other social initiatives that provide direct benefits to the public.

In the governance sector, Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok continues to strengthen Good Corporate Governance (GCG) implementation through the principles of transparency, accountability, and continuous monitoring. The company also implements a centralized Whistleblowing System (WBS) together with the Pelindo Group, which is connected with the system of Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Beyond strengthening internal control mechanisms, Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok, together with the Pelindo Group, regularly conducts GCG and fraud prevention training for employees and stakeholders to establish an ethical and trusted business environment.

DEI Strengthens an Inclusive Corporate Culture

Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok views Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) as a fundamental foundation for building an adaptive and innovative corporate culture capable of responding to the challenges of a rapidly changing industrial environment.

The company provides equal opportunities for all employees through various initiatives, including increasing the representation of women in leadership positions, implementing non-discriminatory recruitment processes, and empowering communities through various TJSL programs.

According to Fiona, diversity within an organization is a strength that can encourage innovation and improve the company's ability to understand the needs of different stakeholders.

"Diversity is not only about creating differences within an organization, but also ensuring that every individual receives equal space to provide their best contribution," Fiona stated.

She added that DEI implementation plays a crucial role in creating an inclusive workplace where every employee has the opportunity to develop and contribute optimally to the company.

Communication as the Key to ESG and DEI Implementation

Fiona emphasized that communication plays a strategic role in ensuring that ESG and DEI values are understood by all stakeholders and that their benefits can be widely recognized.

Therefore, Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok continues to develop an open communication strategy through various channels, including media relations, port visits, corporate publications, social media platforms, and collaborations with customers, government institutions, academics, communities, and mass media organizations.

This communication approach aims to strengthen public trust while increasing society's understanding of the port's role as one of the key drivers of the national economy.

Furthermore, Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok believes that every employee has a role as part of corporate communication. Employees are encouraged to become agents of change who promote ESG and DEI values in daily operations and stakeholder relationships.

Through consistent and collaborative communication, Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok seeks to strengthen its corporate reputation while creating a port ecosystem that is increasingly inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.

The participation of Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok in the IDEAS 2026 Conference reflects the company's continuous commitment to sharing best practices, expanding cross-sector collaboration, and advancing ESG and DEI as essential elements in the transformation of port operations.

This initiative is part of the company's efforts to create value for society, strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia's logistics industry, and support sustainable economic growth in Indonesia. (IDNC)
