MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deputy Mayor of Medan, H. Zakiyuddin Harahap, attended the opening of the 50th North Sumatra Fair (PRSU) 2026, held on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the PRSU grounds in Medan. The largest annual event in North Sumatra continues to serve as a major attraction for the public as well as business stakeholders from various regions to showcase their respective regional potentials.

The ceremonial opening of the 50th anniversary PRSU was officially inaugurated by the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra, Surya. The major event will run for a full month, from July 3 to August 2, 2026, featuring a wide range of programs involving local governments, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), cultural practitioners, and the creative economy sector.

PRSU As A Platform For Marketing Regional Potential

In the festive atmosphere of the opening ceremony, Medan Deputy Mayor H. Zakiyuddin Harahap expressed optimism that PRSU should not merely remain an annual ceremonial event, but must evolve into a strategic platform to more comprehensively showcase North Sumatra's regional potentials.

Zakiyuddin emphasized that PRSU plays an important role as a regional showcase, highlighting the strengths of each city and regency government. This opportunity must be maximized to present cultural assets, flagship products, and regional innovations.

"I hope this PRSU becomes a showcase where we can promote all the potentials of our respective regions—from cultural strengths, MSMEs, to the best innovations," Zakiyuddin said.

He also underlined that the active involvement of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the event serves as an important driver of regional economic growth. PRSU, he noted, must provide space for broader business networking while strengthening the competitiveness of local products in larger markets.

"Harmoni Emas" As A Symbol Of North Sumatra

Deputy Governor of North Sumatra, Surya, stated in his remarks that PRSU 2026 carries the theme "Harmonie Emas." The theme reflects the spirit of unity within the diverse society of North Sumatra, working collectively to drive regional progress.

"Harmony represents the diverse social life of North Sumatra, while Emas (Gold) symbolizes progress and the determination to lead North Sumatra toward a better future," Surya explained.

He stressed that social diversity is a fundamental strength in regional development, while collaboration among all societal elements is essential for sustainable and inclusive progress.

Surya also highlighted PRSU's role as a driver of regional economic growth, emphasizing that the event should not only serve as entertainment but also deliver tangible impacts on investment, tourism, and trade in North Sumatra.

PRSU To Strengtjen Economy and Tourism

Surya sees strong potential for PRSU to become a driver of regional economic growth if managed sustainably and optimally. All stakeholders are encouraged to utilize the event as momentum to strengthen the creative economy and expand tourism promotion.

"PRSU must be a place where investment, economy, and tourism grow. We hope this event brings great benefits to the people," he said.

With the support of local government, business actors, and active community participation, the 50th PRSU is expected not only to remain an annual exhibition but also to become a symbol of North Sumatra's progress based on diversity, innovation, and collaboration.

The half-century milestone of PRSU also reflects the region's long development journey, steadily advancing toward a more progressive and competitive level both nationally and globally. (IDCN)
