MEMPAWAH | INDATANEWS.COM - Terminal Kijing in Mempawah Regency has once again strengthened its position as one of the key hubs in the development of Indonesia's national logistics sector. PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), or Pelindo, officially handled its first container export voyage (maiden voyage) operated by PT Pulau Laut Line to international markets on Monday, June 29, 2026. The export activity was conducted through Terminal Kijing Mempawah, which is operated by PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas).
This initial operation marks not only a historic milestone for
Terminal Kijing but also forms part of a broader strategy to enhance
national logistics connectivity. The export activity is expected to improve supply chain efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and increase the competitiveness of Indonesian export commodities in the global market. It also supports the government's agenda to drive economic growth, attract new investment, and accelerate regional development in West Kalimantan.
Export of Key Raw Materials from Kijing and Tayan
Several exporters from the Kijing and Tayan regions participated in this inaugural shipment, exporting various strategic raw materials to international destinations. From Kijing Port, PT
Borneo Alumina Indonesia exported a total of 12 twenty-foot containers of aluminum hydroxide to Pasir Gudang, Malaysia. PT Unicoco Industries Indonesia also contributed with two containers of processed coconut products (dedicated coconut) bound for the same destination.
Meanwhile, PT Ferrindo shipped 10 containers of whole coconuts to Yangpu, China. From the Tayan area, PT Indonesia Chemical Alumina recorded the largest shipment, exporting a total of 150 twenty-foot containers to multiple countries, including South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
These export activities highlight the strong potential of West Kalimantan's industrial zones as production and distribution bases for export-oriented goods. They also underscore
Terminal Kijing's role as a key gateway for regional international trade.

Government Support and Cross-Sector Collaboration
The inaugural export operation was attended by several high-ranking officials, including West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan, Mempawah Regent Erlina, and management representatives of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero). Also present were representatives from KSOP Class I Pontianak, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise West Kalimantan, immigration authorities, quarantine agencies, as well as shipping lines and export companies.
Infrastructure Expansion and Investment Climate
Director of Commercial Affairs at PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), Farid Padang, emphasized that this first export voyage represents a significant milestone in strengthening the national logistics network.
"Today at Kijing-Mempawah Port, we carried out our first sea export operation, totaling 180 containers carrying alumina products, coconut derivatives, and processed oils. In the future, we will deploy larger vessels, add new cranes, and extend the quay. We hope this step brings blessings and drives economic growth in West Kalimantan," said Farid Padang.
West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan welcomed Pelindo's initiative, viewing it as a major boost in positioning the region as a strategic hub for international trade.
He also stressed that the regional government would continue to facilitate investment and accelerate infrastructure development, particularly access roads to the terminal, in order to create a more investment-friendly climate and increase local employment opportunities.
"The provincial government will continue to streamline investment processes and accelerate the development of access roads to Terminal Kijing so that logistics activities become more efficient and West Kalimantan's export competitiveness increases," Ria Norsan stated.

Pelindo Regional 2, Budi Prasetio, added that the success of this inaugural export operation reflects strong collaboration between
Pelindo, government authorities, regulators, and the business sector. The growing export activity demonstrates increasing confidence in
Terminal Kijing as a new logistics hub in Western Indonesia.
General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Pontianak, Kalimantan Barat, Yanto, further explained that direct export services from Terminal Kijing provide significant advantages for exporters, particularly through reduced inland transportation costs and shorter delivery times.
"With this service, exporters are no longer dependent on ports outside West Kalimantan. Inland logistics costs are significantly reduced, while delivery times are much shorter," he said.
He added that direct routes to Pasir Gudang offer additional efficiency, while shipments to China can be processed more quickly through transshipment arrangements.

Significant Growth in Terminal Performance
Since the introduction of
container export services,
Terminal Kijing has recorded continuous operational growth under the management of PTP Nonpetikemas. Throughput increased significantly from 1.95 million tons in 2023 to 2.75 million tons in 2024, reaching 4 million tons in 2025.
In the first quarter of 2026, throughput reached approximately 1.5 million tons, dominated by dry bulk cargo at 845,000 tons and liquid bulk at 662,000 tons. Performance achievement stood at 223 percent for dry bulk, 168 percent for liquid bulk, and 93 percent for general cargo.
President Director of PTP Nonpetikemas, Indra Hidayat Sani, reaffirmed the company's commitment to ensuring reliable, safe, and productive port operations.
"PTP Nonpetikemas, as the operator of Terminal Kijing, is committed to ensuring that all cargo handling and port services are carried out optimally, with a strong focus on safety, productivity, and service quality," he said.
He added that skilled human resources, modern equipment, and standardized operational procedures are essential to ensuring a smooth national and international logistics flow.
Terminal Kijing is equipped with modern facilities, including a 750-meter container berth capable of handling vessels up to 100,000 DWT, multipurpose docks, liquid and dry bulk facilities, as well as container yards, CFS, and reefer areas. All facilities are supported by modern cargo handling equipment to maximize efficiency.
With the launch of its first export operations,
Terminal Kijing strengthens its role as a strategic logistics gateway for West Kalimantan. Collaboration between the
Pelindo Group, government, and the business sector is expected to enhance logistics efficiency, improve export competitiveness, and contribute to regional and national economic growth.
