LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Kelurahan Kotapinang administration in Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency, North Sumatra, carried out its routine "Jumat Bersih" (Clean Friday) initiative on Friday, June 5, 2026. The community-based activity brought together Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel, local officials, neighborhood representatives, and residents to clean drainage channels along Jalan Labuhan toward the public cemetery (TPU).

Kotapinang Lurah Mirwan Santoso Siregar, the initiative emphasized collective responsibility in maintaining environmental cleanliness, particularly in clearing blockages caused by waste and sediment buildup.
Community-driven drainage restoration
From early morning, residents and personnel gathered at the site equipped with simple tools such as shovels, hoes, and transport carts. Together, they worked to remove sediment and household waste clogging the drainage system, which had disrupted water flow and increased flood risks during heavy rainfall.
The cleanup activity was carried out in a spirit of equality and cooperation, with no distinction between government officials, military personnel, and residents as they worked side by side to restore the drainage channels.

TNI support strengthens collective effortPersonnel from the local TNI Koramil unit actively participated in the operation, assisting in the removal of mud and waste and helping restore proper water flow across affected areas.
Their involvement not only accelerated the cleanup process but also reinforced a strong sense of community solidarity. The local administration coordinated the work to ensure all targeted sections were addressed systematically, while residents demonstrated strong engagement throughout the activity.
World Environment Day inspires greater awareness
Coinciding with
World Environment Day on June 5, the initiative also served as an environmental awareness campaign for the local community.
"A healthy environment does not happen by itself; it requires consistent daily action. Everyone has a responsibility for the future of our living space," said Lurah Mirwan Santoso Siregar.
He also highlighted the importance of simple but impactful practices such as waste segregation, tree planting, and responsible resource management.

Building social solidarity through community action
Beyond infrastructure improvement, the "Jumat Bersih" program has strengthened social cohesion among residents. It is seen as an effective platform to foster solidarity and a shared sense of environmental responsibility.
The administration confirmed that the program will continue weekly as part of ongoing efforts to prevent flooding and maintain environmental cleanliness.
After several hours of work, the drainage channels were successfully cleared, restoring normal water flow. Residents expressed relief and hope for continued community participation in similar initiatives.
