MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – The management of RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan has firmly denied allegations that it expelled a patient suffering from gunshot and stab wounds, identified as Guntur Sugoro. The hospital emphasized that all medical procedures were carried out in accordance with established standards, from emergency response to inpatient observation and referral procedures.
The patient was brought to the emergency department in critical condition and received immediate medical attention upon arrival.
Acting Director of RSUD Dr. Pirngadi, Mardohar Tambunan, stated that the patient arrived on May 12, 2026, at 23:45 WIB in a conscious state with a gunshot wound to the lower right back.
"The patient was treated immediately. At 00:05 WIB on May 13, 2026, a chest tube (thoracic drainage) was inserted in the COT operating room," Mardohar said on Sunday (May 24, 2026).
Stabilization and Inpatient Monitoring
Following initial treatment, the patient was transferred to Tulip 2A ward at around 02:15 WIB. At that time, he remained conscious and was receiving oxygen support at a rate of three liters per minute.
Medical personnel continued close monitoring to stabilize the patient's condition and prevent potential complications during recovery.

Referral Due to Specialist Limitations
The hospital management explained that the patient was recommended for further treatment at a specialized medical facility due to the unavailability of certain specialists.
"The patient was previously referred from RS Haji Medan. Our thoracic, cardiovascular, and vascular surgery specialists are currently unavailable, so the referral was made in accordance with municipal regulations," Mardohar explained.
The hospital also prepared a referral to partner facilities, including RS Bhayangkara Medan, for the removal of the bullet still lodged in the patient's body.
Financing Based on Municipal Regulation
Regarding medical costs, the hospital clarified that treatment for gunshot injury cases is not covered under Indonesia's national health insurance scheme, BPJS Kesehatan.
Instead, financing is handled under Medan Mayor Regulation (Perwal No. 26/2026).
"BPJS does not cover gunshot wound cases. Therefore, billing is processed under applicable municipal regulations," Mardohar said.
Patient Declined Medical Procedures
According to the hospital, the patient repeatedly refused both referral arrangements and recommended medical procedures. All refusals were documented in writing.
Despite this, the hospital continued to offer outpatient follow-up care. The patient was discharged in stable condition on May 19, 2026.
He later expressed initial consent for surgery but failed to attend the scheduled procedure.
"Shortly before his arrival at the hospital, he changed his decision again," Mardohar added, reiterating that no expulsion occurred.
