JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - Jambi Police Chief Kombes Pol. Ananto Herlambang, S.I.K., M.M., personally led the distribution of clean water and free masks to residents in Telanaipura District, Jambi City, on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
The initiative was carried out in response to residents' needs, particularly in several areas where access to clean water remains limited. At the same time, the police demonstrated their concern over the impact of
haze caused by forest and land fires, which continues to be felt in parts of Jambi.
Accompanied by several senior officials from the Jambi Police, the head of the Jambi City Regional Disaster Management Agency, the Telanaipura district head, and the head of Penyengat Rendah Urban Village, Ananto visited residential areas along Jalan Raden Suhur in Penyengat Rendah, Telanaipura District.
At the location, Jambi Police personnel distributed clean water using a water tanker. Residents were able to use the water provided for various daily needs while the regular clean water supply remained limited.
Police Respond to Residents' Needs
Kombes Ananto Herlambang said the assistance was not merely a social activity but also reflected the police's concern for the situation faced by residents. In his view, the police should be present whenever people encounter problems that directly affect their daily lives.
"Our presence today is not merely about distributing assistance. Rather, it is concrete evidence that the police, particularly the Jambi Police, are always present and concerned about the people's concerns. When people have difficulty obtaining clean water, we are there. When people need health protection because of the smoke, we are also there," the Jambi Police chief said during the activity.
Kombes Ananto explained that the initiative was in line with the principle of "Polri Untuk Masyarakat," or "The Police for the People." According to him, the principle must be implemented through concrete actions that provide direct benefits to the community.
The Jambi Police subsequently deployed a water tanker to residential areas where residents were experiencing difficulties obtaining clean water. The measure allowed residents to receive a direct water supply without having to wait for the regular distribution system to return to normal.
In addition to addressing a basic need, the presence of police personnel also provided an opportunity for direct interaction with residents. The Jambi Police chief and his companions greeted residents and listened to various problems they were facing in their daily lives.

Free Masks Distributed at Simpang BI
TelanaipuraIn addition to distributing water, the Jambi Police also handed out free masks to members of the public in the Simpang BI Telanaipura area. Police personnel targeted people traveling on the roads, traders, students, and passing motorists.
The mask distribution was intended as a precaution against exposure to haze, which can particularly affect the respiratory system. Special attention was given to groups who may be more vulnerable to smoke exposure, including children, elderly people, and individuals with a history of respiratory problems.
The initiative also served as a reminder for residents to continue paying attention to their health while haze conditions persist. People who need to spend time outdoors can use masks as one of the protective measures against exposure to unhealthy air.
Residents of Penyengat Rendah welcomed the assistance positively. The clean water distribution was viewed as helpful in meeting daily needs, while the masks could provide additional protection against smoke exposure when residents needed to leave their homes.
"We are very grateful. We really need the water, and the masks are also very helpful because the smoke is still noticeable. We hope the police chief and all the personnel will always remain healthy and be protected by God," a female resident said.

Police Chief Calls for Environmental Protection
On the occasion, the Jambi Police chief also reminded residents to work together to maintain environmental cleanliness and refrain from burning land. He also called on the community to preserve solidarity and security in their respective neighborhoods.
"Let us work together to ensure that public security and order in Jambi City remain safe and stable. This is not only our duty but the responsibility of all of us. Hopefully, this small assistance can help ease the burden on residents," he added.
Kombes Ananto also urged residents not to hesitate to contact the police if they encounter problems or security disturbances in their neighborhoods. In his view, communication between the community and the police is an important part of maintaining public security and order.
The event proceeded in an orderly and friendly atmosphere. The Jambi Police chief and his companions interacted directly with residents, listened to their concerns, and conveyed messages on maintaining security and public order.
The presence of the Jambi Police through the distribution of clean water and
free masks also contributed to strengthening relations between police officers and the community. The social initiative was part of joint efforts to address environmental and health issues arising from limited water supplies and
haze.
"With this initiative, we hope that the presence of the Jambi Police will further strengthen relations between the police and the community while reinforcing our shared commitment to overcoming all challenges so that Jambi City can become a safe, healthy, peaceful, and prosperous city," Kombes Ananto said in closing.
