MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Government has called on graduates of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Sumatera Utara (UNUSU) to put the knowledge and skills they acquired during their studies into practice and make a tangible contribution to society and regional development.
The message was delivered by Deli Serdang Regent's Expert Adviser for Economic, Financial and Development Affairs, Misran Sihaloho, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, on behalf of Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan at UNUSU's sixth graduation ceremony for diploma and bachelor's degree programs in 2026, held at Tiara Convention Hall in Medan.
Misran congratulated all the graduates who had successfully completed their higher education after going through various learning processes, challenges and personal efforts.
"Congratulations to all the graduates. This achievement is the result of dedication, hard work, prayers, and the support of families and lecturers," Misran said.
He said completing higher education was not merely a personal achievement for the graduates, but also carried a responsibility to create greater benefits for society. The graduates possess knowledge and skills that can be used to address various challenges and problems faced by the community.
Graduation Marks the Beginning of Lifelong Learning
Misran, who also serves as secretary of the UNUSU Foundation Supervisory Board (BPP), emphasized that graduation should not be seen as the end of the learning process. Instead, it marks the beginning of a new stage in which graduates are expected to apply the knowledge they have gained in the workplace and in their communities.
He urged the graduates to continue developing their abilities even after earning their academic degrees. The rapid pace of change requires individuals to keep learning, adapt and strengthen their competencies to meet labor-market demands and respond to challenges in regional development.
"I hope the knowledge gained at UNUSU will benefit society. Become graduates who are able to adapt to the developments of the times and contribute to regional and national development," he said.
The appeal reflects the region's need for qualified human resources who also demonstrate social responsibility and sensitivity to community needs. University graduates are expected not to focus solely on personal career goals, but also to play an active role in advancing society.
With their academic backgrounds, graduates can contribute across various professional fields, including business, public service and the social sector. Adaptability and a commitment to lifelong learning are also essential to responding to changes in the labor market and technological developments.

UNUSU Graduates 245 Students
A total of 245 graduates from five faculties took part in UNUSU's sixth graduation ceremony for diploma and bachelor's degree programs in 2026.
The Faculty of Education accounted for the largest number, with 157 graduates. It was followed by the Faculty of Computer Science with 35 graduates, the Faculty of Economics with 27, the Faculty of Agriculture with 15, and the Faculty of Health Sciences with 11 graduates.
The figures reflect the diversity of academic fields developed at UNUSU. Graduates from various disciplines are expected to enter the workforce while applying the knowledge and competencies they acquired throughout their studies.
UNUSU Rector Ibnu Affan said the university was committed to producing graduates with strong knowledge and expertise in science and technology. At the same time, they are expected to possess an entrepreneurial mindset and be able to compete at the national level.
According to Ibnu, UNUSU provides students with more than academic competencies. The university also emphasizes social skills, religious moderation, tolerance, justice and an entrepreneurial spirit as important elements in shaping the character of its graduates.
"Become academics who bring benefits and enlightenment to society. Keep learning, maintain your integrity, and continue developing your abilities so that you can face the challenges of the times," Ibnu said.
The message serves as an important guide for the 245 graduates who have completed their education at UNUSU. Following the graduation ceremony, they will enter a broader environment where they are expected to apply their knowledge, skills and values acquired during their university years.

Graduates Urged to Maintain Integrity

The graduation ceremony was also attended by the head of the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region I for North Sumatra, representatives of regional higher education associations in North Sumatra, UNUSU's leadership and academic community, as well as the parents of the graduates.
The presence of families was also an important part of the graduates' educational journey. The support of families and lecturers accompanied the graduates throughout their studies until they successfully completed their higher education.
Through its sixth graduation ceremony in 2026, UNUSU expressed hope that its graduates would uphold the good reputation of their alma mater while making positive contributions in their respective communities. The Deli Serdang Regency Government, for its part, expects the educated generation to play an active role in regional and national development through competence, integrity and a strong sense of social responsibility.
