DELI SERDANG WINS FIVE AWARDS AT NORTH SUMATRA HKG PKK 2026: The Deli Serdang Regency TP PKK secured awards in five competition categories at the closing ceremony of the 54th HKG PKK anniversary celebrations at provincial level in North Sumatra. The event took place at the Grand Mercure Medan on Thursday, 22 October 2026.

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Deli Serdang Regency secured awards in five competition categories at the closing ceremony marking the 54th anniversary of the Family Welfare Movement (Hari Kesatuan Gerak Pemberdayaan dan Kesejahteraan Keluarga, HKG PKK) at provincial level in North Sumatra in 2026. The awards recognised achievements in PKK administration, parenting and education for children and teenagers, family income improvement, home gardening, and IVA screening for the early detection of cervical cancer.

The event took place at the Grand Mercure Medan on Thursday, 22 October 2026. It provided an opportunity for the Deli Serdang Regency PKK Working Team (TP PKK) to showcase its work with volunteers and the implementation of family welfare programmes down to village level.

The five awards went to four villages and one sub-district in Deli Serdang. Bandar Khalipah Village in Percut Sei Tuan Sub-district won first place in the Parenting and Education for Children and Teenagers (PAAR) category. Lubuk Pakam Sub-district also secured first place in the IVA screening category.

Sumberejo Village in Pagar Merbau Sub-district took second place in the PKK Administration category. Tandem Hulu I Village in Hamparan Perak Sub-district came second in the "Aku Hatinya PKK" category, which promotes attractive, well-maintained and productive home gardens.

Bangun Rejo Village in Tanjung Morawa Sub-district secured third place in the Family Income Improvement Programme (UP2K) category.

Five Awards Recognise Community Efforts

Deli Serdang TP PKK Chairwoman Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan praised the work of PKK members, sub-district and village administrations, and other stakeholders who contributed to the achievements.

"These achievements are the result of joint efforts and a shared commitment to implementing PKK programmes down to village level. I hope they will motivate us to continue improving the quality of our programmes and deliver tangible benefits to families and the wider community," she said.

The results across the competition categories are expected to encourage further improvements in programme delivery. Cooperation between volunteers, local administrations and residents remains essential to extending the reach and impact of family welfare initiatives.

The awards also reflect the movement's broad priorities, from effective organisational administration and child development to strengthening household economies, promoting home gardening and encouraging early cervical cancer detection through IVA screening.

Rather than serving solely as recognition, the awards are intended to help participating areas use their experience and competition assessments to improve programmes over the long term and respond more effectively to the needs of local families.

Kahiyang Ayu and Bobby Nasution Call for Stronger PKK Programmes

North Sumatra TP PKK Chairwoman Kahiyang Ayu highlighted the importance of the PKK's ten core programmes in strengthening families. She also linked their implementation to support for the national Asta Cita development agenda, which aims to help build a stronger Indonesia by 2045.

"Support from local administrations and efforts to strengthen the capabilities of PKK members must continue to be expanded so that the PKK movement can play an even greater role as a driver of social change," she said.

Kahiyang stressed that local administrations should support PKK activities and develop members' skills so that programmes meet the public's actual needs. Targeted training, she said, could help members deliver initiatives more effectively within families and across villages.

North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution also urged the TP PKK to make the best possible use of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in implementing its ten core programmes.

Alongside technological innovation, Bobby emphasised the role of families and PKK members in children's education and drug abuse prevention. Families play a vital part in creating supportive environments for children's development and protecting young people from social risks.

These priorities extend the PKK's role beyond traditional family welfare activities, bringing its work into closer alignment with the needs of a changing society. Digital tools can support information-sharing, public education and programme administration, while local members can help ensure that initiatives remain relevant to community needs.

Village Infrastructure Opportunities for 2027

At the same event, Bobby Nasution urged villages that had performed well in the PKK competitions to prepare infrastructure proposals for planned programmes in 2027. The provincial government intends to distribute Provincial Financial Assistance (Bantuan Keuangan Provinsi, BKP) funds directly to villages.

"We plan to distribute BKP funds directly to villages next year. In particular, villages that have won competitions today should start preparing proposals in three areas: village roads, production roads and agricultural access roads. The requested road length may be one, two or three kilometres, depending on each village's needs," he said.

The proposed projects are intended to improve local connectivity, facilitate the transport of agricultural produce and support economic activity. Better road access can also make it easier for residents to reach schools, healthcare services and other public facilities.

The funding and proposed projects will still need to follow the relevant local government procedures. Village administrations will be expected to assess local needs, set priorities and determine suitable road lengths based on conditions on the ground.

Early preparation would allow villages to submit proposals that reflect their development priorities and the needs of residents.

PKK Training and Vlog Competition Success

Ahead of the closing ceremony for the 54th HKG PKK anniversary, the North Sumatra TP PKK held a training programme at the Grand Mercure Medan for PKK working teams from the province's regencies and cities in 2026.

The programme included presentations by the North Sumatra Provincial Health Office on efforts to combat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, alongside other technical briefings from the provincial TP PKK. The training aimed to strengthen members' knowledge and skills so they could implement family welfare programmes more effectively and support public health education.

The event also featured an awards ceremony for the Working Group I (Pokja I) vlog competition and other contests held to mark the 54th HKG PKK anniversary in 2026. Deli Serdang's TP PKK won first place in the Pokja I vlog competition with an entry on "Towards Indonesian Families That Protect Children from Sexual Violence" (KILAS).

The win added to Deli Serdang's achievements at the provincial event. The KILAS entry highlighted the importance of protecting children from sexual violence, an issue that requires attention from families, communities and relevant institutions.

Vlog competitions provide another way to deliver educational and public information through digital media. Engaging content can help reach wider audiences with child protection messages and raise awareness among families about preventing sexual violence.

Alongside the presentations and award ceremonies, the organising committee held a team-building outdoor programme for PKK working team leaders from regencies and cities across North Sumatra. Participants were divided into groups and asked to complete a series of tasks together.

The activities were designed to encourage personal interaction, strengthen team spirit and improve cooperation among the leaders. These relationships are also expected to support better coordination in implementing PKK programmes in their respective areas.

The 54th HKG PKK anniversary programme combined professional training, recognition of achievements, health education, child protection and family welfare initiatives. For Deli Serdang, the five competition awards and first place in the Pokja I vlog contest provide an opportunity to build on existing programmes and expand their benefits for the community.

The next step will be to turn these achievements into sustained action. Continued skills development, effective use of digital technology, stronger family health initiatives and practical village development planning will be important to delivering lasting benefits for residents. (IDNC)
