INAUGURATION OF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICIALS: North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya delivers remarks after swearing in and inaugurating 188 administrative and supervisory officials of the North Sumatra Provincial Government at the Raja Inal Siregar Hall, North Sumatra Governor's Office, Monday, October 5, 2026.

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya has stressed the importance of collaboration and synergy in carrying out government duties to 188 newly appointed officials of the North Sumatra Provincial Government. He called on the officials to strengthen cooperation among leaders and government agencies to ensure effective governance while improving the quality of public services.

Surya delivered the message in his remarks following the swearing-in and inauguration of administrative and supervisory officials of the North Sumatra Provincial Government at the Raja Inal Siregar Hall on the second floor of the North Sumatra Governor's Office on Monday, October 5, 2026.

A total of 188 administrative and supervisory officials were assigned to new positions during the inauguration. They consisted of 71 administrative officials and 117 supervisory officials from various organizational units within the provincial government.

Surya said the inauguration marked not only a change in positions and responsibilities within the government structure, but also brought greater demands for the officials' performance. They must be capable of leading and mobilizing organizations, building cooperation, guiding their staff, resolving various problems, and ensuring that public services are delivered optimally.

"I hope this trust will be accepted with great gratitude. At the same time, there must be an awareness that greater responsibility comes with higher demands for integrity, capability and exemplary conduct at work," Surya said in the presence of several heads of organizational units within the provincial government.

Public Office Must Deliver Concrete Results

Surya explained that the appointment of leadership positions in public administration must be aligned with the implementation of talent-based management for state civil servants. In his view, every position requires a competent individual with the appropriate potential, experience and willingness to meet the organization's demands.

He therefore reminded the officials not to view public office merely as authority or a position within the organizational structure. Instead, a position must provide an opportunity to deliver concrete results and create benefits for both the organization and society.

"I want the appointed officials to prove that the trust placed in them is truly justified. This must, of course, be demonstrated through concrete work and tangible results. These positions are very important to the functioning of government," Surya said.

He described administrative and supervisory officials as strategically important functionaries because they are directly involved in carrying out duties within their respective units. In addition to coordinating employees, they are also responsible for managing activities and ensuring that services to the public are properly delivered.

According to Surya, the positions require officials to become agents of change. They must not limit themselves to carrying out administrative routines, but should also be responsive to various problems arising in the workplace and within society.

He urged the officials to establish open communication with their employees and superiors. Any problems that arise must be coordinated immediately so they do not develop into larger obstacles to the implementation of government duties.

Strengthening Communication and Synergy

Surya also reminded the officials to abandon working methods in which each organizational unit operates in isolation. Cross-agency coordination, he said, is essential to ensure that government programs are implemented in an integrated manner.

"Build good communication and do not allow small problems to become bigger. If there are obstacles, coordinate immediately and seek solutions. Above all, do not work in isolation. We need a government that works in the spirit of collaboration and synergy," he said.

In his view, the success of the regional government in delivering public services cannot be attributed to a single agency alone. Every organizational unit plays an interconnected role in implementing programs and addressing public problems.

Therefore, Surya called on all organizational units to support one another and establish strong coordination. He emphasized that the public does not assess government performance based solely on an individual agency. Instead, the North Sumatra Provincial Government as a whole is evaluated when people access public services or seek solutions to various problems.

Through an integrated approach to work, he hopes various government programs can be implemented more effectively. Good coordination can also accelerate decision-making when officials in the field encounter problems.

Getting Closer to Public Concerns

In addition to strengthening internal synergy within the government, Surya urged the newly appointed officials to intensify their engagement with the public. He reminded them that administrative officials must not focus exclusively on administrative duties, but must understand the actual problems faced by the community.

In his view, responsiveness is an essential component of public service delivery. Officials must ensure that their staff work with discipline, respond quickly to public needs and take measures consistent with their respective duties and authorities.

Surya also called on the officials to establish a results-oriented work culture. Every task carried out must produce measurable achievements and contribute to improving the quality of public services.

"Start working seriously, responsively and with discipline, and stay closer to the problems faced by the public. Together, let us ensure that every position delivers benefits. Every task must produce results, and every policy decision must ultimately be directed toward improving the quality of services and the welfare of the people of North Sumatra," Deputy Governor Surya concluded.

He expressed hope that the 188 newly appointed officials would carry out their responsibilities with integrity and accountability. They are also expected to strengthen coordination within their respective areas of work and contribute to the provincial government's efforts to improve the quality of governance and public services.

The inauguration also served as an opportunity for the officials to demonstrate through concrete work that they deserved the trust placed in them. Through cooperation among leaders and various organizational units, the North Sumatra Provincial Government is expected to provide more responsive services and deliver greater benefits to the public.
