DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - Deli Serdang Regent dr H Asri Ludin Tambunan has called on the Indonesian Ulema Council (Majelis Ulama Indonesia, MUI) of Deli Serdang to strengthen its role in moral education and in promoting religious life among the community. He emphasized that cooperation between the regional government and Islamic scholars is an important element in addressing various social and moral challenges facing society.
Asri Ludin Tambunan delivered the message during the inauguration of the Deli Serdang MUI board for the 2026–2031 term at the Cendana Hall on the second floor on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Under the new organizational structure, the Deli Serdang Regent serves as chairman of the advisory council. He emphasized that MUI holds a strategic position as a partner of the Deli Serdang Regional Government in regional development, particularly in the religious sector.
"MUI Deli Serdang is a partner of the Regional Government in development, particularly in the religious sector," he said.
According to Asri Ludin, regional development requires not only strengthening physical and economic aspects but must also be accompanied by moral education for the population. Various social problems could undermine the moral quality of society if they are not jointly monitored and addressed through appropriate measures.
He cited poverty, excessive ambition and misunderstandings of religious teachings as some of the factors that could contribute to moral decline in society. Therefore, promoting good character, known as Akhlakul Karimah, requires the involvement of the government, Islamic scholars, community leaders and all elements of society.
"The decline is not infrequently caused by high levels of poverty, excessive ambition or a misunderstanding of religion. It is our shared responsibility to promote Akhlakul Karimah in Deli Serdang," he stressed.
Strengthening MUI's Role in Society
The inauguration of the Deli Serdang MUI board for the 2026–2031 term was officially conducted by the chairman of the MUI of Sumatera Utara Province, Maratua Simanjuntak. The new board consists of 62 people, including 30 members of the advisory council and 32 members of the regional executive board.
Kaya Hasibuan was appointed chairman of the Deli Serdang MUI for the 2026–2031 term, with Zulkarnaen serving as secretary and Surya Putra as treasurer.
The Deli Serdang Regent expressed hope that the newly appointed board members would not regard their positions merely as a source of personal pride, but would fulfill the mandate entrusted to them through concrete work and activities that benefit the community.
In his view, MUI board members have a responsibility to carry out their duties according to their respective areas of responsibility and the organizational mandates entrusted to them. This role is expected to strengthen MUI's contribution to promoting religious life while supporting regional development.
"I hope that all appointed board members will not only be proud to be part of the board, but will actively contribute to the organization in accordance with their mandate," he said.
Asri Ludin also reaffirmed the commitment of the Deli Serdang Regional Government to supporting various MUI activities that serve the interests of the Muslim community. Such support is also part of efforts to further strengthen cooperation between the Regional Government and religious organizations.
"The Regional Government will support all activities that benefit the community. We also support independence, which has become part of our shared commitment," he said.
